Biography of William Granville, Jr.
Founder, Chairman and CEO of Granville Academy
Bill Granville rose from leader of an inner-city street gang to become a top level executive in a major international corporation. Along the way he also established an accounting firm, and was its first President and CEO. He is a mathematician by training and has used his mathematical modeling, business experiences, and skills learned from work in the community to start the Granville Academy.
The specific mission of the Granville Academy is three fold: 1) to help youth enter and succeed in the global market-driven economy; 2) to provide a foundation for their continued growth as world citizens; and 3) to instill in them a giving-back spirit focused on individuals and communities around the globe.
Mr. Granville started the Academy with his own money and as a legacy to honor his parents and the foundation they offered him early in life. Despite his parents’ minimal formal education, they were able to provide an adequate quality of life for themselves and their children. They were also active in assisting other families in accomplishing the same American Dream. The Academy model evolved from this idea of community.
Bill Granville has written two books: Just Say Yes (1996) and Calling the Shots (2001). Both detail his earlier activities with gangs and the critical turning point in his life that enabled him to focus on education.
He is a cum laude graduate of Delaware State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters for his numerous successes and achievements. He also holds a Masters Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, and has hosted a local daily radio broadcast, "Kingdom Perspectives: Fresh Manna from Heaven", on WIMG 1300 AM.
